Show Reviews

In October 2024 the RockDoc had the opportunity to have our own room at the UK Audio Show!

We were delighted to feature a custom Rock2 turntable "Zesty", using a DS Audio DS003 cartridge, along with the Townshend Allegri Reference pre-amp, EAR Yoshino 899, Kerr Acoustic KS300 speakers and, of course, Townshend Audio Podiums and cables. You can find photos from the show and read more about the set up, in the gallery section.

Following the show, we were pleased to feature in The Ear show report, which said "The Rock 2, on demonstration this year, looked stunning in metallic orange and sounded even better"....

"......Matt is not afraid to play records that you don’t usually hear at audio shows, many of which are well-worn pressings from his extensive collection. The room proved extremely popular with visitors, so I made sure I popped in early doors before the public made it upstairs to this room"...….

"....Tool’s Pneuma sounded lively and open, dynamic swings hit hard when required, yet the lack of unpleasant edge made it a pleasure to listen to."

In October 2023, the RockDoc teamed up with Audio Dreams, at the UK Audio Show 2023.

We were also delighted to have a Rock 2 featured in the Kerr Acoustic / Townshend Audio room.

The stereonet show report highlighted both the Rock 3 and Rock 2 turntables......below is a snippet from the full report, which showcases the Rock 3:

"A thirty-year-old Townshend Rock 3 turntable hooked up to some Italian loudspeakers celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary, with a special finish that all managed to sound bang up-to-date? That's Matt 'Rock Doc' McNulty's room, and no mistake!

The fully refurbished Rock TT, for that is what Matt does, sported an awesome finish – and I'm not just saying that due to the orange hue. The turntable was loaded with a new old stock Zeta arm armed with a Benz Wood SL cart, which was fed into EAM Lab electronics, including an Element C201 preamplifier (£2,700), 362 230W transistor power amp (£4,000) and LC 106 power filter (£1,440).

The Sigma Acoustics Monitor T10 speakers (£3,990) boasted White Gold internal wiring. After being treated to Mark Cohn's Silver Thunderbird and cuts from The Alan Parsons Project’s I Robot, I wanted to wrap this system up and take it home".

In October 2022, the RockDoc was proud to join Townshend Audio, to celebrate the life and work of Max and to showcase a collection of turntables, including a Rock Reference and Rock 2, which formed part of the Townshend system at the show.
